Record US Results for Holiday Spending

Industry estimates of more than $250 billion.

U.S. holiday revenues may reach $252.3 billion this year, $600 million higher than the record $251.7 billion reached in 2007, when holiday sales were up 1.6%, according to estimates by the International Council of Shopping Centers. Since then, holiday sales have fallen 6.1% in 2008, to $236.3 billion, and dropped another 1.3% in 2009, to $233.4 billion, before rising 4.1% in 2010 to $242.9 billion–still below their historic high.
